Variety.

Local Content.

Emergency Preparedness.

These are the three tenants of our vision of Golden Co-op Radio: variety, local content, and emergency preparedness. Formed in 2021 by a small group of volunteers, we are making incremental steps toward a future where GCR is being broadcast across the airwaves throughout Golden and Area A. There are a few ways you can help bring this vision to life:

Variety

There are currently only two radio stations available on the dial in Golden, with their distinct but limited selection of music and content. We want to provide a more diverse range of music and talk programming.

Local Content

This community has a unique and interesting culture, one that can be shared and discussed by the very people who form it. We envision a diverse selection of programs hosted by local, trained, volunteer co-op members. If you have ideas of what types of content you would like to hear on GCR, please share them here.

The co-op will provide a way for people to access audio equipment, to receive training in new skills, and to develop their own enjoyment of creative audio production.

Also, we see that a lot of community conversation is happening via social media. While this has its place, we are hopeful about developing another platform for discussion about distinctly Golden topics of interest.

Emergency Preparedness

There are a number of potential situations where it could be critical for folks in Golden to have access to essential information about hazard levels, emergency evacuations, and available resources. Our plan is to have GCR serve the community by having the capability to broadcast without power, allowing residents to tune in to get updates regardless of their access to internet, cell phone, or power.

 FAQs

  • A cooperative is a member-owned organization. Each member has a say in how the organization is led by voting in a board at an AGM. Therefore the board is held accountable to the membership and to our community. Co-Ops are then guided by its value and mission statement and a set of cooperative principles.

  • We are hoping to be on the air in a limited capacity by 2027.

  • Well your membership is for life! You get to participate in our AGM and run for the board if you want, have a say on what direction the station is headed. Access to our equipment to create programs, or learn more about audio editing and copywriting. Some sweet member perks.

  • Well first become a member! We can vet your idea, see where it can fit in and ensure you can show up regularly. Then we can sign you up for our programming and radio course to prepare you! It’s a big commitment with more time commitment then your 30 min on air.
